One of Disneyland’s best rides, Star Tours will be shutting down soon and will be — for better or worse — getting a major overhaul.

Rumors had been circulating that Lucasfilms was working on an update to the ride that would include being chased by Boba Fett and holographic communications with Admiral Ackbar. Now it seems that instead of a refresh we might be getting an completely new experience once the ride shuts down (July 27th at Disneyland and September 8th at DisneyWorld).

Word has it that the new ride will open in May 2011 and feature 3-D Screens and Podracing while still maintaining the theme of the original Star Tours. Only time will tell if this new version of the ride will be any good…
