Seems Apple might be letting FedEx run wild and deliver the phones early to avoid huge hits on AT&Ts servers from so many iPhone 4s trying to activate all at the same time. Or it could just be that Apple is trying to be nice and give everyone that pre-ordered a happy little present early. Either way, it’s a good idea to check you tracking info with FedEd and see were you phone might be right now. Mine is in Oakland, CA at the moment; so that a good sign… its at least in the same State.
Last night, Apple started sending out email notifications to customers informing them that their pre-ordered iPhone 4s were going to arrive a day early on June 23rd instead of the 24th as indicated buy the Apple Store site and FedEx tracking. It states that even though the Apple Store and FedEx indicate a June 24th delivery date that they will be able to visit FedEx tracking on the 23rd and track the delivery to their doorsteps on that day. Note, there is an odd grammatical error in the message but nothing indicates that this is not a legitimate Apple email. Links point to the appropriate URLs and not some oddball URL which would indicate a phising scam. But to be on the safe side and you wish to view the status of your order type http://store.apple.com/ into your browser’s address bar and check the status there.

Nintendo finally pulls the curtain on the successor to the DS. At today’s Nintendo Keynote, Mr. Iwata presented to the world the Nintendo 3DS. As previously reported, the new handheld will boast 3D capabilities without the need of glasses and users will be able to control the extent of the effect. It will also sport a 3D camera to be able to take… well… 3D photos. There’s improved graphics as well. Controls include accelerometers and gyroscope for 6-Axis Motion Control as well as an analog Slide-Pad (a big welcome that was seriously missing from the DS).
Other then the official announcement of iPhone 4, the final release of iOS4 (the new name for the iPhone OS) was also announced at WWDC. The highly anticipated OS has been in beta for almost half a year now and is now ready for the wild. iPhone 3G and 3GS and iPod Touch 2G and 3G owners will be able to download and install the new OS on July 21st; completely free of charge. Thats right, iPod Touch owners will not have to pay a dime for this update (unlike the previous OSs that came with a $9.99 price). This is great news for developers as they wont have to worry about OS compatibility on older devices (Except for the 1st gen models. Does anyone still care about those?). And everyone will be able to upgrade and take advantage of all the great new OS features with no excuses. Make sure to make June 21st on your calendars. It’s gonna be a heavy net traffic day as everyone fires up iTunes for the download.
As was expected at today’s WWDC Keynote, Steve Jobs finally made official the next-gen iPhone; jokingly stating “Many of you have seen this already.” The flood of images and an video of leaked prototypes left very little to be expected. As we’ve seen plenty of times before, the new iPhone - iPhone 4 (Really? They couldn’t have come up with something better? It’s not the 4th model. I would’ve preferred iPhone A4.) will have an all glass front and back with a stainless steel frame running around the sides and will have a front facing camera and LED rear flash. What we didn’t know was that will include a gyroscope for 6-axis controls, mico sim bay, 5-megapixel Cameras and the same A4 processor as the iPad. AT&T (that’s right, no Verizon) has offered a six month upgrade window to current iPhone owners. If you bought your 3GS last year between June 24th and December 24th, you should be eligible to upgrade to the iPhone 4 (check with AT&T to make sure). Two models are available, the 16GB at $199 and a 32GB at $299 with a 2-year contract. The phone will be available June 24th and Pre-ordes will open next week June 15
Early this morning, in a press release posted at Nintendo’s Japanese site, the company officially announced the highly anticipated successor to the Nintendo DS. Temporarily named the “Nintendo 3DS”, the handheld will boast hardware with which “games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.” It will also be compatible will all current DS and DSi software. The release reports that the handheld will be released before the end of the fiscal year ending March 2011. Engadget points out reports from Japan detailing known hardware for the 3DS. Ashai claims that the handheld’s 3D output will possible via “parallax barrier LCDs” from Sharp and is backed by reports from Nikkei which also adds that the displays will measure four inches diagonally (each). Nikkei also claims the device will feature a “3D control stick” (presumably to be an analog stick), support rumble, longer battery life and speedier WiFi. While speaking with a representative from Nintendo of America, The New York Times has confirmed that we will get our first hands-on with the new hardware at E3 2010, scheduled to be held from June 15 in Los Angeles.
