Seems Apple might be letting FedEx run wild and deliver the phones early to avoid huge hits on AT&Ts servers from so many iPhone 4s trying to activate all at the same time. Or it could just be that Apple is trying to be nice and give everyone that pre-ordered a happy little present early. Either way, it’s a good idea to check you tracking info with FedEd and see were you phone might be right now. Mine is in Oakland, CA at the moment; so that a good sign… its at least in the same State.
Last night, Apple started sending out email notifications to customers informing them that their pre-ordered iPhone 4s were going to arrive a day early on June 23rd instead of the 24th as indicated buy the Apple Store site and FedEx tracking. It states that even though the Apple Store and FedEx indicate a June 24th delivery date that they will be able to visit FedEx tracking on the 23rd and track the delivery to their doorsteps on that day. Note, there is an odd grammatical error in the message but nothing indicates that this is not a legitimate Apple email. Links point to the appropriate URLs and not some oddball URL which would indicate a phising scam. But to be on the safe side and you wish to view the status of your order type http://store.apple.com/ into your browser’s address bar and check the status there.
Here are the direct link: Enjoy and have a great iOS 4 day everyone!

That sound you just heard…? That was the sound of thousands of gamers clamoring with joy at the Nokia Center in Downtown L.A. Why? Because one of the most longed-for franchises from Nintendo’s long history makes its glorious return in spectacular 3D. Kid Icarus is back in a new game designed specifically for the Nintendo 3DS system by Kirby and Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai and his development team at Project Sora. Kid Icarus: Uprising is a fast-paced and action-packed blend of aerial and ground-based shooting built on elegantly intuitive and streamlined play control. Boasting game play that is easy to pick up but incredibly deep, the game is sure to satisfy novice gamers as well as fans who have been clamoring for a new installment in the franchise.
Nintendo finally pulls the curtain on the successor to the DS. At today’s Nintendo Keynote, Mr. Iwata presented to the world the Nintendo 3DS. As previously reported, the new handheld will boast 3D capabilities without the need of glasses and users will be able to control the extent of the effect. It will also sport a 3D camera to be able to take… well… 3D photos. There’s improved graphics as well. Controls include accelerometers and gyroscope for 6-Axis Motion Control as well as an analog Slide-Pad (a big welcome that was seriously missing from the DS).
After completing the Metroid Prime Trilogy, Retro Studios wanted to get away from Samus and try something different. Who would have ever thought that would envolve Donkey Kong? But not just any Donkey Kong title… but Donkey Kong Country!? That’s right. The franchise that Rareware started back in SNES is back with Retro Studio’s Donkey Kong Country Returns. Retro Studios faithfully restores everything that made the original series great, from barrel cannons to mine carts, and then builds on those elements with stunning graphics and new layers of depth to the world and game play. The game offers the traditional side-scrolling experience everyone loved, but with levels created in fully rendered 3-D environments. And Ffor the first time ever, the franchise features the ability for two people to play together at the same time, ala New Super Mario Bros. Wii – one as Donkey Kong, one as Diddy Kong. Players can navigate the levels separately or as one unit. Diddy Kong can ride on Donkey Kong’s back and hop off whenever he pleases, allowing novice players to ride on Donkey Kong’s back through more challenging areas of the game. Donkey Kong Country Returns hits retail this Holiday Season.
Nintendo today, during their E3 Keynote, revealed the new, highly anticipated Wii title in the Zelda franchise named The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. As the video above shows, it looks like Nintendo has gone for a cell-shaded look more akin to Wind Waker; or as Nintendo puts it “like a painting come to life”. A new control scheme has also been introduce thanks to the Wii Motion Plus. No longer do you have to point the Wii-Mote at the screen. Everything is now motion based like Wii Sports Resort with more one-to-one sword and shield gameplay. Ironically, Miyamoto pulled a Steve Jobs; asking the crowd to turn off their wireless devices as they were causing interference as he experienced some technical difficulties during the on-stage demo. Skyward Sword will require the rest of the year to polish and will be available sometime in 2011
Other then the official announcement of iPhone 4, the final release of iOS4 (the new name for the iPhone OS) was also announced at WWDC. The highly anticipated OS has been in beta for almost half a year now and is now ready for the wild. iPhone 3G and 3GS and iPod Touch 2G and 3G owners will be able to download and install the new OS on July 21st; completely free of charge. Thats right, iPod Touch owners will not have to pay a dime for this update (unlike the previous OSs that came with a $9.99 price). This is great news for developers as they wont have to worry about OS compatibility on older devices (Except for the 1st gen models. Does anyone still care about those?). And everyone will be able to upgrade and take advantage of all the great new OS features with no excuses. Make sure to make June 21st on your calendars. It’s gonna be a heavy net traffic day as everyone fires up iTunes for the download.
As was expected at today’s WWDC Keynote, Steve Jobs finally made official the next-gen iPhone; jokingly stating “Many of you have seen this already.” The flood of images and an video of leaked prototypes left very little to be expected. As we’ve seen plenty of times before, the new iPhone - iPhone 4 (Really? They couldn’t have come up with something better? It’s not the 4th model. I would’ve preferred iPhone A4.) will have an all glass front and back with a stainless steel frame running around the sides and will have a front facing camera and LED rear flash. What we didn’t know was that will include a gyroscope for 6-axis controls, mico sim bay, 5-megapixel Cameras and the same A4 processor as the iPad. AT&T (that’s right, no Verizon) has offered a six month upgrade window to current iPhone owners. If you bought your 3GS last year between June 24th and December 24th, you should be eligible to upgrade to the iPhone 4 (check with AT&T to make sure). Two models are available, the 16GB at $199 and a 32GB at $299 with a 2-year contract. The phone will be available June 24th and Pre-ordes will open next week June 15 |
